Strike at Indian call center turns violent

MUMBAI: The on-going dispute between the employees' union and management of a call center in Mumbai turned violent today with three police constables being injured in the resultant stone-pelting. According to police sources, the employees' union and management of Hope India Ltd., a call center in Saki Vihar in suburban Powai, were at loggerheads with each other and about 400 employees were on strike for the last few days. The dispute took a violent turn today as the management allegedly manhandled the employees. Fearing the situation worsening, a local resident called in the police. As soon as the police came to the spot to intervene stones were allegedly pelted on them from inside the office premises. Three police constables were injured in the stone pelting. The extent and seriousness of the injuries are not yet known.
