New Delhi: Against the backdrop of rising number of patent filings in India, a top Microsoft official has said that strategic use of intellectual property would help in supporting the country's overall growth. Intellectual Property includes patents, copyrights, industrial designs and trade marks. Zinnov Management Consulting in a recent white paper said the number of patents filed in India rose at an average of 11 per cent in last three years to over 36,000 annually. "If there is one thing that is important that is going to be... strategic use of IP as a tool for the benefit of the Indian industry," Microsoft's Corporate Vice President (Intellectual Property Group) Horacio E Gutierrez told PTI. "We believe that increased focus on it will only be a tool for supporting the growth of other segments of business and industry in India and abroad," he noted.
