CHENNAI: Standard Chartered Bank will hire about 500-700 people for its BPO center in Chennai through its subsidiary Scope International. The bank is also looking at expanding its floor space by 50,000 sq ft this year to foray into third-party operations by undertaking banking related work for other financial institutions. Scope International started its operations in 2001 and has two centers, one each in Chennai and Kualalumpur. At present the Bank employs 3,500 persons in the BPO unit that has remained a captive center for its parent since its inception. For its third party operations, it is in talks with financial institutions in the US and expects to sign up with a partner this year. StanChart has saved $80 million by off shoring work to Scope International.
