Hyderabad: The stage is set for the third edition of Internet Governance Forum (IGF), the world's largest Internet congregation formed by the Union Nations Secretary General. About 1,500 participants from 100 countries will participate in the four-day meet beginning at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) Wednesday. With the theme 'Internet for all', the conclave will deliberate on key issues like reaching out to the next billion, promoting cyber security and trust, managing critical Internet resources and the Internet of tomorrow. IGF held its first edition at Athens in 2006 and the second at Rio De Janeiro in 2007. The meet will discuss issues concerning Internet and how it can act a fuel for the nations' growth generating tremendous socio-economic benefits. Under Secretary General of United Nations Marcus Koomer said providing access to all was the main objective of the third edition. He said there was a need to ensure that Internet, which was dominated by English, should reach out to all those who speak other languages. "India has 22 languages and Internet should reach out to all those who speak these languages," he said Key Internet resources like internet protocol (IP) addresses, domain names - which were four billion now - would have to be moved from IP version 4 to IP version 6 to accommodate much more, including route servers, technical standards and telecom infrastructure. There will be panel discussions and workshops on issues like Internet accessibility for people with disabilities; freedom of expression in cyberspace; effective digital education; public participation in Internet governance; child protection and global measures to fight cyber-crime. The meet will bring together different stakeholders and act as a platform for partnerships. IGF holding the meet in alliance with Department of Information Technology (DIT), National Internet exchange of India (NIXI) - supported by ISPAI and major corporates like Sify, BSNL, Tata Communications and STPI.
