SpiceJet plans to expand operations

New Delhi: Rejecting rumours that the company was planning to sell its shares, SpiceJet Managing Director Sidhanta Sharma said on Tuesday that no such plans were under consideration. Sharma, who is also the Chief Executive of the airline, told reporters that the company was actually planning to expand its operations and has ordered for 10 more Boeing 737-800 aircraft. "We are not going to sell our stake to anybody. Instead, our promoters and stake holders are planning further expansion," he said. Tom Bronnel, Chief Operations Officer of the Istitmar Holdings (World), one of the stake holders in SpiceJet, said: "we have long-term plans for the company. We are looking at the expansion plans." Sharma said the company's airlines operational revenue of the third quarter of current fiscal has doubled from the previous quarter to 4 billion ($100 million). Parthasarthy Basu, Chief Finance Officer of the airlines, said that the carrier has ordered for 10 more Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which are expected to be delivered by the end of 2011. At present, SpiceJet has a fleet of 17 aircraft.
