SANTA CLARA: Speedera Networks Inc., Thursday announced that the company was granted a broad and far-reaching patent for its technology that merges content delivery and global traffic management, and provides it as a service offering. U.S. patent number 6,484,143 was granted on November 19, 2002 to Speedera's three co-founders: Ajit Gupta, Rich Day and Eric Swildens, the company announced in a press release. This newly awarded patent describes a service-based system for traffic management and content distribution over a worldwide network of computers, and defines Speedera's intellectual property regarding key aspects of the company's technology and business model. Since Speedera's founding in 1999, it is this integrated service offering that has set the company apart from its competitors while providing tremendous value to a growing number of customers. Speedera won its first patent earlier this year when U.S. patent number 6,405,252 was granted to Speedera's three co-founders in June 2002. "These patents cover what is at the core of our day-to-day business and essentially define who we are as a company," said Ajit Gupta, CEO and co-founder of Speedera Networks. "With two patents under our belt, a healthy financial status, and a solid and growing customer base, Speedera is continuing to solidify its position as the emerging leader and innovator in the CDN industry." In addition to these patents, Speedera has received multiple awards this year, such as being named to Forbes' "Best of the Web" B2B Directory, UPSIDE Magazine's 2002 Hot 100 companies list, and the 2002 Codie Award for "Best Internet Facilitation Service" from the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA). Speedera's CDN is one of the largest content delivery networks in the world, with connectivity to over 1000 carrier backbones and with points of presence in the Americas, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Speedera's network is rated as the fastest and most consistent CDN by independent third party tests.
