Sommer appointed Independent Director at TCS

NEW DELHI: Dr Ron Sommer has been appointed as an additional independent director on the Board of Directors at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). Announcing its latest addition, the leading global IT services and consulting company said Sommer would bring along with him extensive global experience in telecom and other sectors to the TCS board. The former chairman of the board of management at Deutsche Telekom (1995-2002), Sommer increases the total number of independent directors at TCS to five including Harvard professor, Clayton Christensen, former HSBC chief, Aman Mehta, former Senior Advisor to the Prime Minister of India and Indian Ambassador to the USA, Naresh Chandra and head of GlaxosmithKline, Asia, S. Thiagarajan. Speaking on the occasion, S. Ramadorai, CEO and MD at TCS said, "Ron's experience and counsel on the board of directors will be valuable to the TCS leadership team as the company continues to grow globally, and at a fast pace." Prior to joining TCS, this holder of PhD in Mathematics from the University of Vienna spent 15 years with Japan's Sony Corp managing its German, US and European operations.
