BANGALORE: Solectron Corporation, one of the largest makers of circuit boards and computer components, is likely to set up a separate development centre in India, reports Economic Times, a business daily in India. Based in Milpitas, California, the $11-billion Solectron does a large amount of contract manufacturing for clients like IBM Corp, Hewlett-Packard and Mitsubishi Electric among others. The report said the top five companies in the global contract manufacturing market were Solectron, Flextronics, SCI, Celestica and Jabil. The daily quoting sources said the company would be looking at the design part of its entire range of electronics hardware here. Today, more and more leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are relying on electronic manufacturing service (EMS) providers like Solectron to assemble their products. At present, some of the design and engineering work for Solectron is being done in Bangalore at Force Computers, the Indian arm of Force Computers, US, a leading designer and worldwide supplier of standard and custom systems and board-level computer platforms and services for the embedded market.
