Software exports up in 2002-03

NEW DELHI: The country exported electronics and computer software and services to 181 countries in 2002-03 against 175 countries in the previous year. While this represents diversification of the export market to cover practically the entire world — the United Nations has a membership of 191 countries — US dominance continues, with that country accounting for 58 per cent of India's total exports. There has been a steady rise in the destinations for electronics and computer software and services exports from India and there is hardly any country where India is not exporting these products, computer software export promotion council ESC said today. Out of 181 countries, nine account for the bulk of India's electronics hardware and software services exports in ’02-03 at Rs 45,991 crore of the total exports of Rs 52,100 crore. US accounted for 58% of the total exports, followed by the UK with 13%, Germany with four per cent, and Singapore and Japan with three per cent each, it said. The Netherlands accounted for two per cent while Belgium, Canada, Australia and China accounted for less than one per cent each (Source: Economic Times)
