NEW DELHI: Software and services exports, including IT-enabled services (ITeS), grew by 25 percent to reach $4.54 billion during the second quarter of 2005-06, Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council (ESC) has said. ''In absolute terms, export of computer software and services, including ITeS, is estimated to have touched $4.54 billion during April-June 2005 as against $3.63 crore during the same quarter in 2004,'' ESC Executive Director D K Sareen said. ESC's export turnover target for the full fiscal year is $22.72 billion. In the first quarter, 20 percent of the annual target has been met. Sareen said going by the past trend, the export surge is often experienced during the last quarters of the financial year. There is every possibility of actual export touching the target, if not overshooting the mark, he added. Upbeat about the possible surge in exports, he said global IT majors had set up their software development centers in India and some of them were already in full swing. ''Exports from these units will have profound impact on the software and ITeS exports from the country,'' Sareen added. Another significant development is the focus of Indian companies on moving up the value chain in software development.
