MUMBAI: Skoda Auto India, a fully owned subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, said Tuesday the company's sales in the current year are expected to grow by 32 percent on increasing demand for automobiles in the domestic market. The company sold about 7,200 vehicles in 2004, representing a growth of 55 percent over the previous year's 4,656 units, said a company statement issued here. Mirroring the bullish growth in the previous year, Skoda Auto India has increased its targeted sales for 2005 from 10,000 units to 13,200 units, a jump of 32 percent. "Our sales in India started from November 2001 and in the last three years we have sold 16,500 units with seven luxury models in the market," said Imran Hassen, managing director of Skoda Auto India. "The increasing demand has made us a confident player in the market and hence we have increased our targeted sales for 2005," he added. "To cope with this increased demand and the ever increasing customer interest, we are looking forward to increase our production capacity." Skoda Auto is looking forward to higher technical inputs and new production lines in 2005 to cater to varied customer demands. The company also plans to increase dealerships from 36 to 46 in 2005. Skoda Auto India has been operating in India since 2001 as a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, one of the premium automobile manufacturers in Europe.
