'SiteOnMobile' helps access web on low end phones
Bangalore: A new technology called 'SiteonMobile' has been launched by HP Labs that allows access to web via SMS and voice services, in place of the webpage-based browsing method. This technology is beneficial to the masses, as it can be used even in low-end mobile handsets. The cloud service is targeted toward the small and medium enterprises to deliver content and services on their website via SMS and voice. Through this platform, businesses can create 'TaskLets', which are task-based personal web interactions. This ensures that only the relevant content is delivered instead of whole web pages. One can access TaskLets through PCs also. All you have to do is click the corresponding widgets on the computer screens. The Tasklets can be accessed from any device and from anywhere. Sudhir Dixit, Director, HP Labs India said of the new technology, "About 54 per cent of the phones sold in India are ultra-low-end and less than three per cent are Internet enabled. There is a strong need to deliver the value of Internet experiences on low-end devices used by users in emerging markets like India." Presently the service is available for free. However, enterprises can charge users for SMS and voice services after the project is fully updated. It is hosted at http://www.siteonmobile.com and is an 'invitation only' model, letting select customers to create TaskLets.
