Singhvi underlines India's growth at Boston technology summit

Washington: Political and business leaders from three leading world markets - China, India and Russia - got an insight into India's growth plans from Abhishek Singhvi, spokesperson of the Congress Party leading the country's ruling coalition. Participating in a conference on "China, India and Russia - Our Partners in the New Global Economy" in Boston, Massachusetts Thursday, he also dilated on India's infrastructure and its abundant labour supply. Participants got public policy perspectives from high-level government leaders, operating insight from international company executives, and practical advice for companies interested in entering these markets, the organisers said. "It was wonderful to have a member of the Indian parliament give us a high level view of the government's plans for growth, the realities of the country's telecommunications infrastructure as well as its impressive labour supply," said Joyce Plotkin, president of the Mass Technology Leadership Council (MTLC). MTLC, the premier association for developers and IT decision makers of innovative technologies in the region, organised the event with the assistance of the US-India Business Alliance (USIBA), a trade association of the Indian-American community working for increased commerce between the United States and India. "As the key organizer for Dr Singhvi's visit to the US and given the important focus of this global technology summit, USIBA appreciated the opportunity to support the programme in Boston, and we look forward to doing more with these organizational partners in the future," said Michael Taylor, director of government affairs of the USIBA. Attendees were offered multiple networking opportunities with company representatives from all three countries. Lawrence Summers, a leading economist and globalisation expert, and Meredith Attwell Baker, acting assistant secretary of communications and information at the US Department of Commerce delivered keynote speeches. Other speakers included Shankar Jagannathan, senior director of global operations and strategic business management for the information management software group EMC India, Vijay Lund, vice president of operations systems and technology group IBM Russia, and Aron Ain, CEO of Kronos, Kronos (China). The New England-Chinese Information and Networking Association (NECINA), The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) - Boston Chapter, and the US-Russia Chamber of Commerce of New England (USRCCNE) were the other organisers.
