NEW DELHI: Minister for Commerce and Industry Arun Shourie said Wednesday that his ministry would work towards simplifying export policies and procedures to boost sale of products in the international market. In an interaction with representatives of export promotion councils in the run-up to the annual Export-Import Policy, Shourie asked exporters for comprehensive suggestions on streamlining the export procedures. The minister said there was need to set up a follow-up or an implementation cell within the commerce ministry to ensure speedy implementation of policy announcements. He said the government would consider the exporters' demands such as continuing the Duty Entitlement Pass Book scheme, restoration of income tax benefits and setting up of an export promotion council for firms located in special export zones. Deepak Puri, chairman of Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council, urged the government to ensure consistency in policies and procedures so that policies are not changed midstream without intimating the industry. He said a proactive approach was needed to maintain high growth rate of IT exports from the country in the wake of changing global economic scenario.
