NEW DELHI: Siemens today said it is talking to Indian service providers for selling equipment for third generation mobile services. "We have equipment available for commercial deployment and are in talks with Indian mobile service providers for deployment of equipment for third generation mobile services," Ralf Haas, Executive President of Siemens Public Communication Networks, said here. He said: "We have complete 3G portfolio and are ready to bring it to the Indian market as soon as the market allows." Haas said even if the frequency allotted for 3G services does not match the one allotted globally, Siemens could tailor its systems for the Indian market. Stating that standards for 3G services have been clearly defined, Hass maintained that India was ready for rollout of the service although some are of the view that it should be delayed by 2-3 years to allow the cost of 3G equipment and handsets come down. Haas admitted that while voice traffic would remain the key area of focus for Indian service providers, there is segments that can use value added 3G services. He said there was enough money to be made by Indian service providers if they switch over to 3G services. Meyers Siepp, CFO at Siemens said fee for providing 3G services should be kept at the level that allows the market to grow. "Hopefully India has learnt the lesson 10 years back what high license fee can do to the Industry. High license fee in Europe for 3G five years back also rocked the industry," he said.
