Siemens to buy power equipments from BHEL

NEW DELHI: Power equipment major Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited has announced that it will manufacture 800 MW of power equipments for German Engineering giant Siemens. "We have technology transfer arrangement with Siemens for manufacturing equipment worth 800 MW and even 1000 MW. We hope that such projects will come up only in the 11th and 12th plans and we are ready for that," BHEL CMD A K Puri said. The state-owned power equipments maker has expanded capacity at all its facilities at an investment of Rs 1,000 crore spread over the next three years, with a view to meet the capacity addition target of 60,000 MW in the 11th plan. When inquired about BHEL's status in the 500 MW category, Puri said "we have executed 22 projects in which BHEL supplied equipment worth 500 MW and an order for another 10 machines is being executed in the next two years and we will bid as and when such projects come up’. As and when any project with a requirement of 800 or up to 1000 MW equipment comes up "we will bid for the project," he said. Currently, BHEL has the capacity to meet an equipment demand for adding up to 6,000 MW annually and this is being enhanced to meet the demand for adding 12,000 MW capacity every year beginning 2007 as the government has set an ambitious target of adding 60,000 MW in the 11th plan.
