Sibal launches forum to fight climate change

New Delhi: Minister of Science and Technology Kapil Sibal Monday launched an Earth Sciences Forum to create awareness among various stakeholders and jointly fight climate change. The forum launched in collaboration with the HSBC Bank will work with participation from industry, voluntary organ isatuions, academia, the government and concerned citizens. ?With the forum, we have created a platform where informed people from academia, industry and even the general public can put forth their views and help finds ways to mitigate the effects of climate change on all of us,? Sibal said. As part of the forum, Sibal will chair the Climate Change Leadership Council and HSBC country head Naina Lal Kidwai will be the co-chair. The council shall meet at least twice a year to chart an action course to deal with the problem. The forum will hold climate change awareness workshops for industries with a focus on small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs). Cities with a high concentration of SMEs will host such workshops. It will target carbon intensive industries such as iron and steel, electricity, automotive among others. According to Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), India with its over 7,000 km of coastline will face a lot of problem due to global warming.
