Bangalore: Shyam Narayan, an Indian American student has made history after winning the first prize in the ‘’who wants to be a Mathematician competition’’. He also got a chance to discuss a math problem with Obama after winning the Mathcounts National Written Championship.

This is the third national contest of ‘’who Wants to Be a Mathematician’’, which is conducted by the American Mathematical Society.

Shyam is a student at Blue Valley high school in overland park, Kansas, who competed against nine other contestants. They were selected on the basis of their scores in a qualifying exam. Shyam turns out to be the youngest person ever to qualify the competition.

Shyam plans to utilize the winning amount of $ 10,000 to begin a math club at his school. He will be donating half the amount for the club and the rest he will keep with him.

Since grade school, Shyam has been participating in math competitions and it was his father, Sam Narayan, who helped him with his preparations by conducting mock tests. Shyam was invited to visit White house along with other math champions. He was well prepared with a question ready for President Barack Obama.

Raj Raina and Rachit Singh are the two other Indian Americans who qualified for the contest.
