Sensex zooms past 10,700 after India-U.S. nuclear deal

MUMBAI: The benchmark Sensex zoomed past the 10,700-point level on the Bombay Stock Exchange this afternoon, soon after reports of India and the U.S. having reached an understanding on the implementation of the civilian nuclear cooperation agreed last year. The Sensex spurted by 140.75 points at 10,706.22 at 1230 hrs on aggressive buying by foreign as well as domestic funds. Wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also touched a record high at 3170.35 points, gaining 47.25 points.
