Semiconductor industry to create 9 million jobs

Hyderabad: The chairman of Indian Semiconductor Association (ISA), Rajender Kumar Khare announced that the semiconductor industry could contribute to about one third of the total domestic produce by 2015. HE also added that the industry would employ about six-eight times that of the IT sector if the Indian Government takes it as a national priority. The Indian semiconductor industry has the potential of creating nine million jobs by 2015, and could take over the IT sector 10 times more. “India has a clear advantage over China in their approach to platform and system design,” feels Jodi Shelton, Executive Director, Fabless Semiconductor Association present at the summit. Interestingly, a new cluster development model where some companies come together and work has caught up she added. Speaking at the ISA summit, Khare added that the consumption of electronic goods coul see a huge consumption in India as the income levels are also spiralling. “With local consumption and manufacturing, we are in for a ‘Blue Revolution,’ as represented in the electronic industry. Agreeing with Khare, the Union Minister of State for Defence M. M. Pallam Raju, said that the country’s 400 plus middle class and their growing income and their contribution in escalating the sale of electronic goods will have a cascading effect on the electronic manufacturing activities. The Indian Government has give a clean chit to the semiconductor policy and the subject is close to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as well.
