Scientist invent invisibility cloak to hide objects

Bangalore: No, this is no magic, but pure science. German scientists have created a three-dimensional "invisibility cloak" that can hide objects by bending light waves. "For now these...cloaking devices are just a beautiful and exciting benchmark to show what transformation optics can do," said Tolga Ergin of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, according to Reuters.
Scientist invent invisibility cloak to hide objects

These scientists have published their finding in the journal Science and in their study, Ergin and his colleagues used photonic crystals with a structure that looks like piles of wood to make an invisibility device, or cloak. Transformation optics use a class of materials called metamaterials that guide and control light. It is possible that in the future make it possible large objects invisible, but for now the researchers said they were not keen to speculate on possible applications.

They used the cloak to conceal a small bump on a gold surface -- a bit like hiding a small object underneath a carpet and then making both the bump and the carpet invisible. The "cloak" was composed of special lenses that work by partially bending light waves to suppress the light scattering from the bump. "This is very exciting, because mankind has always thought about being invisible or having invisibility cloaks," Ergin told Reuters in a telephone interview. "This is the first proof of principle. It shows that the technique works."

He added, however, that it would be many years before anything as large as a person, car or tank could be made to disappear with this technique. "There have been proposals in the field of transformation optics for different devices like beam concentrators, beam shifters, super antennas which concentrate light into one point from all directions, and much, much more. It is really hard to say what the future will bring, but the field is definitely very broad and the possibilities are very large."

3: Most of Indian ancient inventions, their documentation and the knowledge rich preists got burnt during the barbaric burning of our great universities like Nalanda, Taxsila , by foreign fanatic invedors..and during foreign rule most of our wealth got stolen and ammased in Pursia and London...Please have proud of this land guys.. Even after 1000s of years of ruining,, India is again on the way of propsperity.. though through route of outsourcing , or whatever... India is shining, bcoz of its people's abilities.

7: How does it really matter. These things have been proposed many centuries back but we should be proud to see these things getting materialized in this era... I had also read an article which states that now the blind can see through his tongue. These things should be encouraged and not criticized.
According to me its a Good Invention hope it doesn't goes in wrong Hands

8: When some Indian literature says that a substance or human being has the capability to disappear, nobody believes it and that becomes a laughable subject. A foreigner does some some crap research and comes up with a theory and that becomes subject of amazement. That's called Kaliyug. May God bless us all with his ultimate wrath.

10:even Pythagorean theorem was stated bac by a indian many yeaars ago when it was actually prove by pythgrous, only problem is there is no proper proof.in he same way many invenions are made by indians, but problem is same no proof which is to be accepted by any scientfic communuity which is nt able to provide by indian communite.

11:Which Indian literature you are talking about, may I know?. And for that matter, how many people know about it? Simple literature will not do to prove a scientific fact to the world at large. You need to produce it in front of many so that the matter doesn't remain a mystique but becomes part of science. THIS IS A REQUIREMENT OF SCIENCE, WHICH ONE MUST RESPECT. No point becoming sentimental over discoveries or inventions that advances the civilization in one or other way....it is our fault not to document everything with proof so that everybody can learn about it.

12: Ancient Indians discovered numerous things, but did not expect any recognition from the 'Science Community'(which did not exist in those days) will be questioned for documentation! Moreover, a lot of documents were systematically destroyed or stolen during COLONIAL RULE.

Even the modern missiles were first developed by Tippu Sultan, who was defeated by British, and the technology was transferred to Britain!

13: Guys, what we read in literature is imagination, not invention. It is simply imagination of some invention.

It is good to be proud for Indians, but don't ridiculously argue that everything was invented by India. Some one missiles were invented by Tippu. It is agreeable to say Tippu Sultan used them, but missiles were invented by Chinese. Don\'t change the history your way.

Also, it was not Britain who used missiles from India. It was Germany who made use of missiles in World War. It was only after that, missiles became popular.

16:True India has not created any platform and respected its Engineers & Scientists. statistics show the number of suicides committed by Engineers & Scientists out of frustation in leading research institutes.Pandit jawarlal Nehru a visionary respected their worth and drafted the Industrial Revolution in India on which we confidently stand today but presntly our Administrative Officialdom highjacked the approach and now Rule the Country. Its frustating to see a Dy.Collector ( State PSC)as MD of Govt. Bodies over-ruling the technocrats & scientists.

18: Guys, what we read in literature such as Mahabharata is imagination, not invention. It is simply imagination of some invention.

I can write a literature in which I can say man see with tongue, taste with ears, and hear with eyes. Can it be called invention. Mahabharata is such a story, that is it.

It is good to be proud for Indians, but do not ridiculously argue that everything was invented by India. Some one posted that missiles were invented by Tippu Sultan. It is agreeable to say Tippu Sultan used them, but missiles were invented by Chinese. Do not change the history your way.

Also, it was not Britain who used missiles firstly. It was Germany who made use of missiles in World War. It was only after that, missiles became popular.

19: The nuclear technology is not something new. In Mahabharath, the description of the effects of Brahmastra is exactly same as the effects of a nuclear bombing.... These are the words of our Former Honorable President and father of Indian missile programme, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. What do you say to this.. HIS imagination..

20: HI WHAT R U SAYING THAT U CAN WRITE SOMETHING LIKE MAHABHARAT. FOR UR KIND INFORMATION CAN U WRITE A SINGLE THING WHICH WILL BE THEIR EXISTING AFTER 30 CENTURIES.
THINK IN THIS WAY IMAGINATION IS A GREAT THING BUT U CAN NOT IMAGINE WITHOUT BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE SCIEND AND THE WORLD AROUND U.
FOR A SECOND IMAGINE URSELF IN THE PERIOD OF STONEAGE MAN AND THINK WHETHER U WOULD HAVE THINK OF THE AEROPLANE AT THAT TIME. FOR UR KNOWLEDGE LET ME TELL U THAT MOST OF THE THINGS WRITTEN IN MAHABHARAT ARE FISIBLE TODAY. ITS NOT A STORY IT IS PURE SCIENCE BUT WITHOUT DOCUMENTATION OR DESTROYED DOCUMENTATION. JUST READ MAHABHARAT ONCE

21: Hey guys don't take all to on your shoulders all know who is what, only fact is some agree and some not, that's it.

So do the best in Ur part and U don't give chance for others to question U, or if U don't care of others and do things that are really good and much appreciated.
And some don't believe in things said and ask for proofs as they feel they know every thing. One thing proofs are needed only when some one say Ur wrong. That’s what the diff from those days to now.
