Scientist criticizes his seniors, gets fired

New Delhi: An Indian-American scientist, academic and entrepreneur hired to work with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research has written a letter to the Prime Minister saying that he was fired from his job for criticizing the leadership of India's largest scientific organization.
"(CSIR) is attempting to remove me (in) reaction to my addressing well-known, intrinsic leadership issues during the course of my professional duties to serve the cause of Indian science and innovation," said Shiva Ayyadurai in the letter.
According to Livemint, Ayyadurai, 45, holds four degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, U.S., and has created multiple companies over the course of his career, including one of the world's earliest email systems. He has won some of America's top awards for innovators.
Samir Brahmachari, Director General of CSIR, said that Ayyadurai's services were terminated because he was a 'financial mismatch.' "He was demanding too much salary," said Brahmachari. "Everyone told me I was pampering him because he came from abroad."
In June, Ayyadurai was in India on a Fulbright scholarship when Brahmachari invited him to join the organization under the Scientist and Technologist of Indian Origin (STIO) programme. Launched by CSIR in 2008, STIO encourages partnerships between Indian scientific organizations and scientists of Indian origin based abroad. Ayyadurai's offer was withdrawn on 26 October.

He abuse your family members in front of everyone in the office and the company does not pay his employees properly. I don't know how he became a Scientist. The email system which is said as world's earliest is nuts. Nothing tool. I was fighting with that tool for 3 years. Nothing is there. Currently no one in the world is using this.

Infact, this was a scheme to sell the CSIR
(public technologies) to private people in

patriotism. Any person who lives for sometime
in an English nation would become a mismatch
over here. For overhere, relationships and

intelluctually, not just the over educated

We are nowhere near it and we are not even trying. No wonder our Scientists are looking at greener pastures elsewhere. Why complain of Brain Drain? Are we providing them enough to make sure they remain with us and not lose them to a foreign country who is benefiting from it. Why cant we utilize their intelligence for our own growth and prosperity? Anything positive that comes our way is shot down as a result of egoistic and selfish politicians who are only interested in accumulating wealth for themselves in the short-term and are not concerned about what our great grandchildren have in store in our own country. In spite of the Media hype that India is booming, our systems are still very old fashioned. We need young visionary leaders who can lead from the front if we have to become a superpower. Its high time our politicians make way for vibrant, energetic and goal-oriented youngsters to lead India. India has tremendous potential, if only we had the right people to lead.

commotion. People who come from abroad learn
a lot and try to implement some good issues
which are in their mind when they are back to
their native countries and they try to do
something innovative which was present in the
alien countries to make India prosper and

standards of the expats so they are fired
due to superior & inferiority complex

laying the sewage system and now the
population has increased and India is 3rd in

developed, water stagnation occurs. this is
truth & whom does Indian men want them to

be implemented. In US Canada, U can see the
sewage disposal & it'll be interesting. Y
It was developed by Indians along with the
aliens and those countries have developed and
they are challenging other diseases which
erupt and many medical developments happen.
Here in India, It is opposite US born Indian

I also appreciate generally the balanced
comments of Dr. Jagadish Nellore in these
blogs. While we have to be very cautious
about the jingoism of the media in India to
create sensation in any story by blowing
things out of proportion --one can also be
rather sure that most likely the Indian
bureaucrats would have stooped to such low
levels of tolerance of any criticism
whatsoever of their work or accoutability .
Like a reader has correctly pointed out, we
have a national culture of intolerance of any

By doing that , he has burst the bloated egos of small minds.

145: The trouble with foreign trained Scientists
and Technologists when they are employed in
India is that they demand too many things, be
it salary, amenities and environment. There
is a saying,"Behave as a Roman in Rome".
Unless one has commitment, dedication to
serve the country, the contributions from
foreign trained scientists/technologis will
be insignificant. Are not great Scientists
like Dr.M.S.Swaminathan, Prof.C.N.R.Rao etc.,
living in India and contributed to the Growth
of Science in our country even though they
had foreign degrees and several opportunities
to settle abroad? Simply because one has a
degree from MIT won't solve Indian problems.
While Science is universal, Technology is
culture specific. The talents of the foreign
trained scientists/technologists should match
to the environment in India and the
facilities available here. Not in all cases
the theory that rural is bad, urban is better
and foreign is the best holds good. Simply
because somebody of Indian origin returned to
India, he cannot be given preferential
treatment. There are geniuses in India in
every field and the Government should
encourage them so that they can contribute
much to the growth of the country.

are basically paper pushers who are corrupt
to the core looking for an opportunity to
take a bribe or swindle the system. They are
devoid of any talent and has invented
nothing, discovered nothing and has created
nothing. The whole bureaucratic environment
does not foster innovativeness. If you are
good or corrupt, dynamic or lazy does not
matter at all in your promotions which are
mostly time bound. Worst of all, there is
absolutely not accountability of Bureaucrat's
actions and no consequence for doing nothing.
Bureaucrats are not fired, worst case, they
are transferred. In this environment, if you
throw in someone like Ayyadurai,who is a
serial entrepreneur from US, you are waiting
for disaster to happen. Ayyadurai will try to
improve the system but the system does not
want any change. It is happy as it is, and
does not want any change from its comfortable
status quo. Ayyadurai should symbolically
slap the CISR DG in his face by doing the
work for free and publishing the ills of CSIR
in newspapers.
