SYDNEY: Expecting huge contracts from the Australian government, one of IndiaÂ’s largest IT services company Satyam will open a office in Australian Capital Canberra by May, Australian IT authorities said. "There is much broader acceptance of the offshoring model, even among government departments. There is general acceptance now that there is a skills shortage in Australia and a shrinking pool of talent from which to address it," Satyam Asia-Pacific vice-president Virender Aggarwal was quoted as saying. Satyam plans to employ six-eight pre-sales technical personnel at the office that will commence before midyear. Last year Satyam had set up a global business unit targeting the public sector. Quoting Aggarwal, the report said Satyam wants to boost public sector revenue from the current three percent to about 10 percent in two years. Satyam is the major beneficiary of the four-year 457-class work visa, bringing Indian programmers to Australia to work on local projects. Aggarwal also said out of the 270 presently employed in Australia, about 200 were temporary foreign workers.
