HYDERABAD: Satyam Computer Services Ltd., a leading global provider of IT services, held its first ever global customer summit, SatyamWorld, a three-day event (May 4-6, 2003) at the Hotel Del Coronado in San Diego, California. Over 80 top notch US and global companies attended the summit. They also participated in a survey on different aspects of outsourcing and 25% of those polled expected to save at least 40% of their company's annual IT budget by outsourcing offshore, while 80% of attendants expected to save between 25-40%. Bulk of the speakers, drawn from Satyam's global clients, strongly asserted that outsourcing indeed had a cascading benefit for the global economy and helped all countries. The three-day event centered around the theme of "Business Fusion," which celebrated the blending of technology, culture, and nature. The theme at SatyamWorld also reflected today's interconnected global economy in which the traditional definitions of business, information technology, and culture are combined in an unprecedented manner. Delivering a powerful keynote address, on May 5, 2003, the former US Vice-President, Mr. Al Gore, spoke about the importance of global free trade in outsourcing which he said allowed companies to focus on what they were good at. Opening the summit, Satyam's chairman, B. Ramalinga Raju said, "SatyamWorld is emblematic of our dedication to building 'Customer Intimacy' through the values of trust, integrity, and transparency. Satyam is committed to delivering the best outsourcing practices. We will accomplish this through knowledge sharing, discussions with our customers about market demands, and an ongoing exchange of ideas in the IT industry, but our ultimate goal is not only to share views on today's IT business demands, but also to integrate into the ongoing exchange of ideas the benefits of an onsite-offshore model and offshore delivery system. Satyam's model of delivery is faster and more cost effective than the average system employed today." Vinod Khosla, the Founding CEO of Sun Microsystems and a General Partner at KPCB discussed his vision of technology and operations of future enterprises functioning over global networks. IT leaders should think about moving to what Khosla called a "real-time enterprise" that relies on continuous migration of legacy systems, the deployment of applications as components, and the creation of an easier way to configure business processes. "In the real-time corporation, as you remove costs you improve quality because information becomes more current and because you are eliminating steps of inefficiency in the way the company works," Khosla said. "Because information comes in real time, senior people get to make more decisions." At SatyamWorld 2003, Satyam's senior management communicated the Company's strategic initiatives and business value. "Satyam understands the complex IT challenges customers face," Ram Mynampati President, Commercial & Healthcare businesses said at the event, "and our services create a platform for continued growth and sustainable competitive advantages." Kalyana Rao, President of Satyam's TIMES Group (Telecom, Infrastructure, Media, Entertainment & Semiconductor) shared the company's initiatives on technology enabled transformation from services to solution, with the participants and commented that Satyam is making enormous efforts & investments in R & D to cater to the business demands of its customers.
