Bangalore: While till date mobile phones have been the target of every inspection on the terror attacks, the satellite phone has recently replaced it as the latest terror modus operandi. The device was used at ease during the Mumbai attacks and the terrorists freely communicated with their bosses in Karachi, as the frequency used in sat-phones cannot be jammed unlike the normal cellular communication, nor can they be easily tapped in India. Infact, the terror purveyors had adopted more hi-tech measures to implement their plans as the probes on the attack revealed not only ammunition but also Google Maps, GPS locators and sat-phones for uninterrupted communication. The sat-phones which are directly connected to orbiting satellites beyond interception to some extent as it sends and receives calls using satellites rather than landlines or cellular broadcasting towers. Moreover, it also comes in handy in areas where normal network hardly exist like that of oceans and deserts, if the satellite operators provide coverage in those areas.
