Sasken wins DSIR award for Outstanding R&D

Mumbai: The Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science & Technology, India, has named Sasken Communication Technologies, an embedded communications solutions Company, as one of the winners of the National Award for outstanding in-house R&D Achievements (2007) in Computer Software Design, for its development and optimization of multimedia subsystems. Introduced in 1988 by the Government of India to encourage industrial R&D, the DSIR annually considers in-house R&D units in various sectors for awards for their outstanding achievements. The objective of these awards is to recognize the work in in-house R&D units, demonstrating how their contributions drive overall technological & industrial development. "With Silicon architecture and OS designs becoming ever more powerful, the challenge for smart phone technology now lies in creating world class and compelling multimedia and messaging solutions," said Dr. G. Venkatesh, Executive Director & Corporate Chief Technology/Strategy Officer, Sasken. "Our Product Division's R&D is dedicated to this challenge, and it is a great accolade for the whole team to be recognized by this national award for its groundbreaking work," he added. This award will bring into sharper focus the R&D in this innovative industry. Sasken's many years of experience coupled with a rich pedigree in R&D has helped it deliver the application environments and given a better leverage to the power of the latest handsets and move the industry forward. For the DSIR, this made Sasken one of the prime candidates for this year's award.
