Sanmina-SCI launches India operations

BANGALORE: Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) company Sanmina-SCI Corporation (Nasdaq: SANM) on Wednesday launched its operations in India. The company plans to set-up a software development lab and a global IT support center in Chennai, with an initial investment of over $ 4 million in phase I. "Sanmina-SCI has strategic interest in India. This is our first software development and global IT support center outside of U.S.," said James Johnson, Vice President, Enterprise Application Development, Sanmina-SCI, "We are looking at making India the hub for development activities to support our business across the world." Sanmina-SCI India's software development lab will cater to the Sanmia-SCI's global requirements. The company is looking at hiring more than 150 software professionals. The company also plans to set up a 24x7 IT Global Support Center. "Our software lab has challenging opportunities for professionals, in the areas of Oracle, EDI, data warehousing and web development," said Kumar Subramaniam, Managing Director, Sanmina-SCI India Private Limited, "India will play a critical role in the support services to Sanmina-SCI's global business."
