Sandal wood
In south India particularly state of Karnataka around sahyadri
range you find world's best quality sandalwood trees.These tree are
semiparasite in nature and are prone to pest attacks initally.Sandalwood
tree are said to be matured for use once reaches 40years of age.Sandalwood
tree is uprooted instead of cutting the shoot,as the whole tree including
roots are of commercial value.
If you ask the experts ,the central portion of root or shoot of the tree are actual commercial value.oil is extrated and used in various industry including medicine.Sandalwood is used by Hindhu,Bhuddists in religious rituals.Wood crafts which has greater demand.
Because of commercial value and much demand, sandalwood trees are cut illegally and smuggled out of the country. In India and Nepal these trees are cut through govt controlled agencies.Interestingly,sandalwood is grown in Australia,Indonesia,parts of China,but not controlled by govt.
Sandalwood and its products are much in demand internationally,our best international quality sandalwood will reach out of our country before we realise. We should encourage sandalwood and its product purchase through govt agencies before it is too late.
