Samsung to give $130,000 to two Indian NGOs

NEW DELHI: Korean major Samsung on Tuesday announced $130,000 grant to 15 organizations in eight Asian countries, including two NGOs from India. The fund will be used for bridging the digital divide between the rich and the poor.
Development Alternatives is a Delhi-based NGO and will utilise this money to launch "Hope Incubator Project", which in turn will create and implement a fund designed to help the young, first-time entrepreneurs in successfully running their own businesses, called `TARAkendras'. Modelled as a revolving fund, it will initially be used in districts of Bundelkhand.
The NCPEDP project will provide scholarships to brilliant disabled students besides mentoring hundreds of disabled students and others in need of jobs.
"The organisations that have been chosen by Samsung, through their technology-related projects, will have a great impact in bridging the digital divide and help improve the lives of young people and their communities," Samsung India managing director CH Yoon told newspersons.
Samsung Electronics had announced the DigitAll Hope programme in May this year simultaneously in India, Australia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Malaysia and Singapore.
