San Francisco: With the launch of its cross-platform mobile development framework targeted at web developers who want to be able to create native mobile apps, Trigger has raised $1 million in seed round of funding from several investors. The fund was raised through AngelList, and the investors include Paul Graham, SV Angel, 500 Startups, Russ Siegelman, Steven Walske, RightVentures, Venture51 and John Taysom. Till date, the company has raised about $1.5 million from various investors.

Sahil Jain, Co-Founder, says, “We are solving a huge problem in a massive 15 billion mobile application market. The number of platform is only going to increase and in order for the platforms to stay competitive, their app markets will need to thrive. We plan to use the fund to build out the team, continue to offer the best support, expand our platform support and continue to deliver the highest quality developer tools to our customers.”

Co-Founded by Sahil Jain, Amir Nathoo and James Brady, Trigger, which was previously web bookmarking tool WebMynd, aims to make web to mobile development a quick snap. The developers only need to write apps once on HTML5, and use the service’s simple JavaScript API to access native functionality on Android, iOP, and desktop browsers, and distribute across all devices and their marketplaces. Showing tremendous growth, Trigger has grown from three co-founders to 14 member team in a little under a year.

Amir Nathoo, Co-Founder and CEO, Trigger, says “Demand for mobile apps, both native and mobile web, is exploding and web developers are looking for ways to benefit from this shift. With Trigger, developers can create rich, native apps using their existing skills. With Android activations up to 700,000 per day, the mobile applications market clearly is no longer just about iOS. This shift makes HTML5 extremely important as a cross-platform technology. But native functionality is needed to take advantage of the distribution and revenue opportunities- that is where Trigger comes in.”

Trigger’s framework. Forge, suits web developers new to mobile app development. With so many web developers looking to crack into native apps and their revenue opportunities, Trigger offers the easiest way-working with open web standards and familiar languages.

Nathoo is an alumni of Y Combinator and  has did his MEng from St. John’s College, University of Cambridge. He has founded companies in the U.K. and U.S., has developed software installed over one million times. He has personally raised over $1.6 million in angel investment. Prior to co-founding Trigger, Nathoo was the Co-Founder and CEO of WebMynd. He also co-founded Cambridge Data.

Talking about the competition, Jain says, “The space is huge and our customers tell us that before they came across our framework, other offerings were just a bit too complex and not truly making their lives easier. Our framework is light-weight, out of your way as much as possible and powerful. We can't wait to see what developers create using our tools!”
