MUMBAI: Sabeer Bhatia, who created history with Hotmail and went off the radar as quickly with the shutting down of his next venture Arzoo.com, is planning his next venture out of India. VoiFi Technology, promoted by Bhatia will debut its maiden application in the voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) space in India. An instant messaging Skype-like product, the application, incidentally also 'Made in India,' will additionally offer gaming and entertainment along with features like instant messaging and VoIP, which others like Skype, Yahoo, and GoogleTalk offer. "Communication and games make for a sticky application," Bhatia said. The gaming capabilities will be a unique feature of the application, and in addition to having the lowest termination rates on fixed line and cell networks compared to the competition. "You will be able to make a call from anywhere in the world to a cell or fixed line in India for as low as low as Re 1 per minute," Bhatia told reporters. VoiFi is currently in talks with telephony providers here to enable this. Bhatia said he wants to secure venture capital (VC) funding for its expansion and will specifically scout for an India based VC or a VC familiar with the Indian market.
