MUMBAI: SAS, the global leader in business intelligence, today announced significant financial and customer success in the first quarter of 2004. Through March, software revenue growth globally (which does not include services) increased 9.0 percent. The company's continued revenue growth, profitability and increased market share were driven by two key factors: Customer adoption of the new SAS®9 platform, as well as customers that continue to select SAS for its strong vertical solutions and domain expertise. In the first quarter, more than 300 global customers from financial services through life sciences to public sector, retail and to telecommunications licensed SAS®9. SAS President and CEO Jim Goodnight said, "For 28 years SAS has focused on providing our customers with unmatched depth and breadth of data warehousing, analytic intelligence and business intelligence. On March 30, we raised the industry bar even higher with SAS®9. Customer adoption of this new platform, which far outpaces the limited, historical-facing capabilities of other traditional query and reporting vendors, is driving SAS revenue in every region." "Our customers recognize not only our technology, but also our industry experience," said Goodnight. "From customer intelligence to operational risk and financial intelligence, SAS is delivering the right industry-specific expertise and solutions to help our customers succeed." Emerging countries like India have been contributing to this rapid growth. In the first quarter SAS India sales revenue increased significantly by 50%, as compared to the same period last year. Commenting on SAS India's performance in the first quarter, Mr. Vivek Gokarn, Managing Director & CEO, SAS India Pvt. Ltd. said, "SAS India has exhibited strong growth in this quarter, thereby demonstrating the tremendous value 'Business Intelligence' has attained in the India context. We will continue to enhance our dominant market leadership and contribute significantly in helping our customers achieve their business goals, by demonstrating value based on their industry-specific needs." Talking about the new SAS 9 platform, he added, "SAS 9 is expected to drive this pace of growth by actually expanding the market for BI solutions. This new breakthrough technology will take organizations beyond BI by delivering the depth & breadth of Enterprise BI. The new revolutionary SAS Intelligence platform empowers organizations by providing them reliable information that drive better decisions, increase revenue and provides a single view of the enterprise".
