BANGALORE: SAP AG, the German software major in business solutions, is in talks with leading Indian IT vendors for global partnerships to develop applications and business processes on NetWeaver, its latest technology platform. SAP NetWeaver is an open integration and application platform, designed and developed to support business change, growth and innovation to reduce ownership cost. "As a truly integrated platform, being delivered as a single packaged solution, NetWeaver supports open industry standards and inter-operability, allowing easy integration with SAP and non-SAP systems," SAP AG executive board member Peter Zencke told reporters here Tuesday. Prior to its official roll out next year, SAP is targeting about 1,000 enterprise customers worldwide using mySAP application for integrating NetWeaver to meet business requirements going beyond the IT solutions provided currently. "The initial success of NetWeaver offers a huge opportunity to Indian IT consultants to develop applications and business processes on top of the existing applications. "The new stack enables Indian IT consultants to leverage on their domain expertise for expanding their business operations," he said. Independent software vendors (ISVs) can also combine their domain skills with NetWeaver to develop applications for business solutions that map on to core ERP (enterprise resource planning) systems. "By partnering with SAP application program, ISVs can sell their solutions to our installed customer base worldwide," Zencke said. SAP hopes to enter into strategic partnerships with major Indian IT firms over the next year for promoting and marketing NetWeaver. "The demand for services around NetWeaver will increase from our present base of over 25,450 customers globally. Indian IT services companies, which employ about 8,000 SAP professionals, have a huge potential for leveraging the new stack," Zencke said. NetWeaver also enables enterprises to run mission-critical Java applications, reduces support overhead and facilitates easier administration of Java across enterprises. About 200 engineers at SAP Labs India contributed significantly to NetWeaver's development as the primary integration and application platform. "SAP Labs India team is driving innovation in diverse areas such as development platforms, business intelligence, exchange infrastructure and knowledge management using the NetWeaver stack," Zencke said on the sidelines of SAP TechEd'04, organised for its developers. Held for the first time in the South Asia-Pacific region, TechEd is being attended by 1,200 developers, customers, partners and SAP community members from India and abroad. "NetWeaver brings to Java a level of supportability, quality, robustness and mission-critical stability in line with our applications and technology," Zencke said.
