SAP to invest 20 mn euro for expansion in India

NEW DELHI: German software giant SAP AG will invest 20 million euro for expansion of its India development centre in Bangalore.
"We will invest 20 million euro for expansion of our development centre in Bangalore in 2005," SAP Labs India JMD Martin Prinz, told PTI.
Set up with an investment of 20 million euro, SAP's India campus started functioning in December 2003. It can accommodate 1200 developers.
The expansion of the India campus has been necessitated as the company has started hiring aggressively.
By the end of 2004, SAP plans to add 500 engineers in India. "We started in 2004 with 750 engineers in SAP Labs India. At present, we have 900 developers and by this year end, we want to hire 500 more," Prinz said.
Apart from the campus facility, SAP Labs has 100 engineers located in Bangalore's International Technology Park (ITP).
The developers to be hired by SAP Labs in India will work on the existing projects. "The additional developers that we will hire will expand the development work being carried out by SAP Labs India. They will be working on technology platforms, applications and custom development," he said.
SAP had opened its research and development centre in Bangalore in 1998. The 20-million Euro SAP's campus in Bangalore is one of the largest the company has outside Waldrof in Germany, where it is headquartered.
