Mumbai: The rupee strengthened by 15 paise to 50.23 per US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange on dollar selling by exporters and capital inflows.

Dealers said euro's gains on IMF plans to expand its lending resources to counter Europe's debt crisis against the American currency overseas, also kept the rupee sentiment firm.

The rupee had jumped 35 paise to close at a fresh two-month high of 50.38/39 in Wednesday's session, on the back of sustained capital inflows.

Meanwhile, the BSE 30-share index, Sensex, rose by 206.02 points or 1.25 per cent to 16,657.49 in early trade.
