Kolkata: The mysterious disappearance of 1.4 million from two ATMs of the State Bank of India (SBI) in West Bengal's Malda district has put bank officials in a tizzy. After futile attempts by an expert team to solve the puzzle, the SBI officials Sunday lodged a complaint at the Englishbazar police station. "They have filed a complaint saying 1.1 million were missing from one ATM and 300,000 from the other," an officer at the police station told IANS by phone. Locals said the two ATMs had been closed from Jan 28 with "Out of Order" notices pasted on them. "We are looking into the matter. Can't say anything now," the officer said. "We had deployed the expert team to determine how the money disappeared. And when it happened. And also to know whether the entire money was taken in one go, or serially," an SBI official said. "We also do not know whether a mechanical fault is responsible for the money going missing," the official said.
