Riverstone names Lowenthal to Board of Directors

SANTA CLARA: Romulus Pereira led Riverstone Networks Inc. (Nasdaq:RSTN), Friday announced that Richard Lowenthal has been appointed to the company's board of directors. Lowenthal has held a variety of senior executive positions with technology companies, including most recently vice president of the wide area networking access product division of Cisco Systems, Inc. He is currently a consultant to development stage companies, and a city council member and former mayor of Cupertino. "Richard has significant experience managing companies through periods of dynamic growth by developing new technologies that increase market share and deliver value to shareholders," said Romulus Pereira, president and CEO of Riverstone Networks. "He is a well known and respected member of the technology industry and of the Silicon Valley community, and I look forward to working with him." Prior to Cisco Systems, Lowenthal served as vice president of research and development for StrataCom Corporation, a telecommunications product development and manufacturing company acquired by Cisco in 1995. He also served as co-founder and vice president of engineering at Stardent Computers, vice president of engineering at Convergent Technologies, and most recently as co-founder of Pipal Systems, Inc., a development stage company acquired by Riverstone in January 2003. "Silicon Valley was built on entrepreneurship, innovation and determination, and Riverstone exemplifies those same qualities." Lowenthal currently serves on the board of directors of the Santa Clara County Metropolitan YMCAs, the Cupertino National Bank, Cupertino Community Services, the Rotary Club of Cupertino and the Fremont Union High Schools Foundation. He holds a BS in electrical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
