Rising food prices biggest concern for Indians

Sunday, 25 July 2010, 19:05 Hrs
New Delhi: Rising food prices is the biggest concern for people in the country. The concern over increasing food prices has become so big that it has replaced respondents' concern over jobs and the economy.

According to the Nielsen Company survey, the overall inflation average for April stood at 9.6 percent as compared to 1.3 percent in the same month of previous year.
Rising food prices biggest concern for Indians

The concern over rising food prices will continue to remain the biggest concern for Indians in the next six months, the survey said.

"Increasing food prices is a major concern that has been bothering Indians for some time now. This rise in the price index is on account of dearer food articles and fuel products. Concrete steps needs to be taken to curb the increasing prices," said Piyush Mathur, president, India, The Nielsen Company.

Indians' concern for increasing food prices is followed by their concern for work/life balance (12 percent) and terrorism (12 percent). The public concern over terrorism in India is the second highest globally, behind Turkey.

The economy, global warming, children's education (all 8 percent), job security and parents' welfare and happiness (both 7 percent), are some other issues bothering Indians.

India ranks first for its public concern over global warming.

According to survey, nearly seven in 10 Indians (69 percent) think that the country is currently not in an economic recession. Out of those who think that India is currently in an economic recession, 64 percent think that the country will be out of recession in the next 12 months.

The survey was conducted among 27,000 Internet users in 48 countries May 10-26.

1: i think MBA graduates can have some help in case of food management but will be having low packages..........people who will be concerned towards others food health or public health will surely undertake my concern.................

other than this as we all have heard the NABARD officials in recent years for example in states like up bihar orissa though they have kept a very huge amount of rice in their godams but they didnt sell those rice in order to wait for the increase in the rice cost barley cost etc etc.......... in turn they take up the rice from the farmers at low cost even they are paid by the govt with gud salaries they wait up whne the price of the food grain n other vegetables rises and then they sell them but unfortunately....alas a lot of food grain in recent yrs were wasted even though the officials were storing a lot granny bags in their godaams............. ultimately the common man suffers the farmers also suffers since they are not paid their proper prices..............................

in my state orissa this is also a cause of naxalite..... as the question goes why do people join the nax forcesn why not the army...... due to poor administration rr corrupt admin.. due to not so matured or to say not proper responsible govt or admin .............

I think the people who take pride in having a gud management course understanding the soiciological aspects of country and cultural and moral etchis should once come and study how our people live i think my people like to live with freedom not under the control of steel plants but with their own land and own agricultural crops..

but unfortunately todays gen are after money thogh money is also a concern i would like to state my concern to NRI utakalians and to the country........ and the same goes in other neighbouring states..........

time has come up to behold our mother land.......
plz guyzz rise up n think for the better n environmentally

5: Yes it is a big concern for india.... but our great most Corrupted agriculture minister in not concerned about it so much because he is busy in solving ICC and IPL problems. Tons of wheat is getting Rot in states like Harayana and even Maharashtra and he makes statements like
1."Why r u people making it a big issue"
2."I cannot do anything" -- then why the hell is he the agriculture minister
As long as people like him are there in this country it will always be a big concern in india
