Responsiveness to change key to success of Indian businesses

Mumbai: The goings on at the opening day of the SAP Summit ’07, SAP India’s three-day annual business and technology forum, was aptly captured in the words of Dr. Inder Thukral, Director, Strategy and Business Development, IBM India and South Asia: “Indian business have realized that to compete and succeed in their domain, they must move towards becoming globally integrated companies. This would necessitate them to look beyond the country to fulfill their supply chain demands.” He cited the recent acquisitions by Hindalco and Tata Steel while talking about Indian companies taking the ‘global integration’ route. He also said that not only the big companies, but even SMEs were now realizing the need for putting the global integration principle to work. “SAP is at the forefront of enabling Indian companies take on the global integration model to work,” stated Alan Sedghi, President & CEO, SAP-Indian Subcontinent said, “Opportunities for Indian businesses today are boundless – both globally and domestically. The incredible pace of customer adoption for us in India is a testament to the evolution of SAP solutions into the trusted industry and business platform for growth.” In addition to the big companies, Sedghi also stated that over 1000 Small and Midsize companies in India have adopted SAP solutions. As a means to tapping the growing SME market, SAP is striving to localize enterprise solutions to suit Indian business requirements. Some of the India specific functionalities that have been released for SAP for Utilities include features like ECS Mandate, Late Payment Charges, Prompt Payment Incentive and Security Deposit Enhancements amongst others. Speaking on this, Sedghi said “Effectively supporting Indian customers with localized solutions tailor-made for Indian business environments has always been a fundamental element of SAP’s Indian operations.” Among others, TCS’ audio-visual presentation at the keynote drew a lot of applause. The issues touched upon during the first day of the summit were information management, adaptive infrastructure and its deployment, and the importance of decentralizing for global companies, and also had a session on going about bringing global integration in respective companies. The next two days of the summit will be focused on different tracks, and the importance of SAP in partner businesses.
