Reliance introduces sub $19 handsets

MUMBAI: Further slashing down the price barriers in the handset market, India's leading telecom service provider Reliance Communications launched mobile handsets for as low as 777 (less than $19) Wednesday. Reliance Communications' Classic range of handsets features Classic 202, available at Rs 777, Classic 204 and Classic 203 available at Rs 844 and Rs 888 respectively. There are no further payments or installments for owning these handsets. Speaking on the occasion of unveiling of the range, S.P. Shukla - President, Personal Business- Reliance Communications said "Through our new Classic range of feature rich handsets, we are confident of extending the benefits of mobility to an entirely new segment of population in metros, small cities as well as rural hinterland of India." Reliance sold 12 million handsets last fiscal is now aiming for a quantum jump this year. The company will focus on getting a larger share of the entry-level consumers, second hand buyers and the people who prefer buying from the grey market. The company's Classic handsets are now SIM enabled which allow easy changeover from one model to another while retaining the Reliance SIM card. The prices are being offered till stocks last.
