Reliance, Qualcomm tie up for personalized mobiles

MUMBAI: Reliance Infocomm ad Qualcomm, the global leader in Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, on Monday announced the signing of a definitive agreement to launch a wireless data service based on QualCOMM’s BREW solution. A company news filing on the Nasdaq website on Monday said the agreement will enable subscribers of Reliance Infocomm’s CDMA2000 1X service to be the first wireless users in India to download BREW-based applications over the air, allowing them to personalize their mobile phones virtually anytime, anywhere. The BREW solution provides the operator with a complete wireless data system that supports all programming languages and operating systems, and enables the operator to provide enhanced, value-added services to its subscribers. There is a strong local base of wireless developers in India which is sure to take full advantage of the flexibility the BREW platform offers, said the filing. “We look forward to giving our customers exciting applications that will make optimal use of the speed and capacity of our CDMA2000 1X network,” the Nasadaq filing quoted Manoj Modi, director of Reliance Infocomm, as saying
