California: California-based Dynamic Virtual Desktop (DVD) platform provider DeskStream has acquired a Belfast-based startup WorldDesk. The deal was announced at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The company would immediately adopt and brand with the name WorldDesk.

According to Rao Cherukuri, Founder and CEO, DeskStream, the acquisition would enable them to transform the mobile computing market. The acquisition would make DeskStream control a cloud-based workspace delivery platform prototype built on Dropbox and would be able to extend to other cloud storage providers. DeskStream would also add the customer support services, marketing expertise and additional software development capabilities. The employees of WorldDesk, including its co-founders Jonathan Chesney and Claire Moore, would join DeskStream.

DeskStream which was founded in 2007 by Rao Cherukuri, has a vision to create a world where anyone can execute their personal desktops anywhere, anytime, and on any device. Its DVD platform allows any Windows-based application to reside as a set of files on the network storage, including the user’s personal setting and the user data files. This would help the users to access the desktop and run it locally, on demand or as a service, on any device running on the Windows Operating System, and Linux flavors such as Android, webOS, or Mac, without any installation required. The DVD platform can also be delivered using the AppStore model to run seamlessly on thin clients, netbooks, tablets, STBs or smart TVs.

Cherukuri has previously founded many startups including Flow Wise Networks (which got acquired by Network Equipment Technologies), Ramp Networks (which got acquired by Nokia), and Euclid (which sold its ASP business to E4E). Cherukuri has also led several innovative technology development efforts at Unisys. He pursued his BS, Computer Science from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli.
