Ramadorai of TCS is the new chairman of Nasscom

NEW DELHI: S. Ramadorai, CEO, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has been appointed the Chairman of the National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom), India's premier Information Technology body. B. Ramalinga Raju, Chairman, Satyam Computer Services is the new Vice Chairman of Nasscom. Ramadorai replaces Jerry Rao of Mphasis to the post. TCS is the country’s biggest software firm with a market capitalization of $14 billion, while Satyam is amongst the top five of India’s largest software services firm. Speaking after his appointment, Ramadorai said, "I am deeply honored to be the Nasscom's chairman during 2005-06. The organization has been the voice of Indian IT in the global marketplace and has helped raise awareness that Indian technology products and services are cutting edge, and globally competitive." "While there are many challenges that lie ahead, I am also excited by the numerous exciting opportunities that are now available to Indian IT industry. My endeavor will be to emphasize the vital role the industry plays, both within the country's fast-growing economy and externally, through investments in other markets, like the U.S., U.K., and Europe. As Chairman, I look forward to further enhancing the reputation and growth of our IT industry, both at home and across the globe," he added. Ramalinga Raju said, "Over the last decade the Indian economy has transitioned from an agrarian economy to a predominantly services based economy. Indian IT industry has led the services revolution and helped India emerge as the services hub of the world. Our services portfolio is moving up the value chain, and it is important that trade barriers, both within the country and international market, are lowered for future growth. As Vice Chairman of Nasscom I will strive to continue the momentum that the Indian IT industry has maintained over the years." Ramalinga Raju also heads the International Policy Group of Nasscom, which was formed to address vital issues like WTO/GATS, double taxation treaties and their impact on the Indian IT industry.
