Raj Sharma's NexTone raises $10-M 3rd round

GAITHERSBURG: Raj Sharma, Sridhar Ramachandran and Ravi G. Narayan co-founded NexTone Communications, a Gaithersburg, MD-based provider of products that help telecom service providers manage real-time IP services such as voice over IP (VoIP), has raised a $10 million third round led by BCE Capital, the venture arm of Bell Canada Enterprises. Existing investors including Core Capital, Mid-Atlantic Venture Funds, Safeguard Scientifics, Delmag Ventures and Blue Rock Capital also participated. The latest round takes the total financing raised by NexTone since its founding in February 1998 to $32.5 million. Raj Sharma, NexTone's President, earlier worked with Newbridge Networks, Hughes Network Systems and IBM. Sharma completed his BS in electrical engineering and MS in electrical engineering and computer science from the Stevens Institute of Technology in New Jersey. He received his MBA from Stern School of Business in New York. Sridhar Ramachandran, NexTone's CTO, earlier worked with GE Spacenet, Bay Networks and Hughes Network Systems. Ramachandran earned his B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT-Madras. He has a MS in Computer Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. Ravi Narayan, NexTone's VP-Operations, earlier worked with IBM Global Services and Hughes Network Systems. Narayan earned his B. Tech from IIT-Madras, MS in Industrial and Systems Engineering and MBA in Finance and Information Technology from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.
