Bangalore: Blackberry maker Research in Motion has acquired the relationship management app Gist for an undisclosed amount. The Seattle startup helps users manage personal contacts via email and social networks. With the acquisition of Gist software, RIM aims to address its need for a social feature that will provide an awesome mobile messaging experience. Gist creates profiles of people in your business network by using publicly available information from different sources and makes it available any time someone emails you. The social contacts service software also gives the ability to rank and tweak the importance of the information that it collects. It will also update you when any news about your clients appears on the Web. Gist, founded in 2008 employed about 20 people during the last summer. Gist is available via the iPhone, Android, Chrome, Firefox, and Salesforce.com but not RIM's Blackberry OS.
