Bangalore: The claims of Reliance India Mobile against Blackberry App World have stirred a controversy since it pulled the real time texting app Kik from the company. The issues that the company faces which add to the customer worries, as RIM opines, demand immediate action. The removal of app and Push services by the company without explaining the so called "breached contractual obligations" is stated as the main reason. Different speculations came out to know the exact reasons behind the pull. On one hand it could involve both valid security concerns and competition, whereas, on the other hand it could be RIM's concern that Kik is too similar to BlackBerry Messenger and is a competitive threat that would reduce the incentive to keep using BlackBerries. It's easy for the customers to switch platforms since app is available on Android and iPhone devices as well. With the push services being turned off making RIM go official, Kik took it in a negative way noting that it was one of RIM's most favoured developers. No privacy has been maintained since an update was sent to RIM that implemented controls. "We would be surprised and disappointed if there is any truth to this, as RIM has always championed the BlackBerry ecosystem as an open platform," said the company Chief Ted Livingston. "However, if true, the implications would go well beyond Kik to the entire mobile community, users and developers alike." As it was highlighted by a long block on Google voice, for the similar practices Apple had been accused a year and a half back for duplicating iPhone features although its loosened iOS app rules have brought Google on board at last and have posed no restrictions for Kik. The app has always been allowed on Android by Google's own open policies.
