Qualcomm launches lab to develop mobile technology

Mumbai: Wireless telecommunications research and development company Qualcomm has launched a lab facility, which will develop new services and applications to tap mobile technology. Qualcomm Services Labs (QSL) will focus on mobile innovation by developing services, applications in five areas - communication, information/entertainment to deliver content, discovery, life automation, digital to physical access to relevant digital information to enhance your mobile interactions. As the QSL services mature, the U.S. based company will review if these products will be transferred to a new/existing Qualcomm division or will be established as a separate business entity. QSL, along with Qualcomm Ventures, is part of Qualcomm's overall new business creation program to grow the wireless ecosystem. "As an incubator, QSL is structured to fast-track new capabilities and focus on innovative mobile applications and services," said Isaac Babbs, General Manager, QSL. QSL recently launched its first four services - Neer (allows you to share your location with your close ones), Qilroy (a social-messaging service enables location-based conversations), Tapioca (URL shortening service that allows content providers to share multimedia), Vive (social recommendation service where users can share recommendations, ratings).
