Punjab wants Rs 1 B training help from W-B

CHANDIGARH: Punjab has submitted a financial assistance proposal of approximately 1 billion to the World Bank for a project to strengthen industrial training institutes (ITIs) across the state. Technical Education Minister Mohinder Singh Kaypee has confirmed the submission of the proposal. State Secretary of Technical Education K.B.S. Sidhu said that the 1.09-billion project was aimed at augmenting the physical, financial and human resource infrastructure in 125 technical institutes in Punjab. He said the key thrust was on tool kits, machinery and equipment, with special emphasis on information technology (IT) software and hardware. The project, proposed to be implemented over a five-year period, envisages the setting up of 30 centers of excellence in ITIs.
