Pune: Precision Automotive Robotics Inc (PARI), a city-based robotics and automation company, has bagged a 150-million order from American automobile giant Chrysler to develop an automated axle manufacturing system, a top official said here. The Chrysler account adds to PARI's US customer base that includes automotive and engineering companies such as Caterpillar, American Axle, Honeywell and Dow Corning, joint managing director Ranjit Date told reporters Monday during a plant visit. "The company has established itself in the US through its cost-effective engineering and manufacturing base in India," Date said. The order involves supplying fully automated manufacturing processes with robotic technologies for operations such as assembling, fastening, sealing and testing of axles for Chrysler vehicles. The entire system will be designed, built and tested at PARI's new automation facility in Pune, and deployed in the US through its Detroit-based subsidiary. The order assumes importance as the US automotive industry is reinventing itself and looking at smaller and fuel-efficient cars with lower capital costs. "It's good news for the Indian capital goods manufacturers and ancillary industry as a whole," Date said.
