Promoter holdings in top IT firms decline
Chennai: Country-promoter holdings in Infosys, Wipro, HCL and TCS have dropped. TCS has shown the sharpest decline, the Tatas' holding is down from 76.21 percent last March 2009 to 74.12 percent in March 2010. Rahul Jain, IT Analyst at Angel Broking said, "In the case of TCS, it was expected. Two other business divisions of the Tatas, Tata Motors and Tata Steel were facing problems last year. So the promoters must have sold some of their stakes in TCS to infuse capital in these two companies." Analysts say that in other three companies, the difference is too minor for shareholders or investors to worry about. Kumar Parakala, global head of sourcing advisory at KPMG, said, "I would worry if I saw a drop of around five percent or more. That is a significant drop. These are minor developments." Another reason why analysts are largely unperturbed is the strong financial history of these companies. "These are well known large Indian companies that are leading the way for resurgence from the economic slowdown. Investors have no cause for worry in such variations," says Parakala.
